The company’s president is confident that the cost of “humanoid robots”, although more complex, will be only half the cost of the cars it produces.
Musk made this prediction in response to the opinion of ARK Invest expert Sam Korus. He believes that the main obstacle to mass production of humanoid robots is not the assembly itself, but the task of creating advanced software.
But Tesla’s founder is aware of the high degree of uncertainty surrounding the Optimus robot. The company expects to launch the first batch in 2024, although the exact timing and volumes have not yet been specified.
At the same time, if Musk is to be believed, Optimus could become one of the most valuable products in history. He said the robot’s starting price will be between $25,000 and $30,000 but will gradually decrease over time.
Tesla has announced ambitious plans to create humanoid robots in 2021. The stated goal is to automate dangerous, repetitive and monotonous tasks using artificial intelligence.
