Google Vice President of Engineering Rajan Patel announced this innovation on Twitter. Users can now enter a wallet address into a Google search to find out its balance and last transaction date.
The function supports P2PKH, P2SH and Bech32 address formats.
It is important to remember that all transactions on cryptocurrency networks are public. This means that the wallet balance information is not private but does not reveal the identity of the owner.
Besides Bitcoin, Google also shows the balances of Ethereum wallets on Arbitrum, Avalanche, Fantom, Optimism and Polygon virtual machines.
Despite the convenience of this feature, some cryptocurrency holders may not be happy that Google can now access information about their wallet balances.
