Tinkoff Bank warned about the spread of a new “hybrid” fraudulent scheme, the result of which is the theft of money from a bank card. The bank’s press service described the scammers’ procedure.
The attackers call the victim disguised as employees of a cellular operator and tell him about the expiration of the contract for the provision of communication services (in fact, this contract has no expiration date). They ask you to mention the SMS code to renew the contract and immediately admit that they deceived the person.
Then the victim receives a call from “financial surveillance employees”, “representatives of state services” and “police”. These people convince the victim that they are trying to save her and expose the scammers, who act together with the bank employees, and also force them to withdraw cash from the card and deposit it into the specified account.
Tinkoff also noted that scammers try to force the victim to install a remote access application on their mobile phone, which allows them to control what is happening on the smartphone screen, including the cash balance.
