To do this, it is better to create a complex combination with letters of different registers and numbers. When installing a new router, it is worth changing the factory password to a personal one, Maxim Nazarenko told the Prime agency.
He also emphasized that the router software must be updated regularly - manufacturers are constantly trying to improve the level of protection of their devices.
“It is also advisable to disconnect from outdated router protocols, for example WEP. Through them, attackers are more likely to be able to connect to your network,” he said.
Another way to protect is to configure the antenna of the router, which allows you to connect devices that are only within the perimeter of an apartment. At the same time, it is better not to resort to this option without special technical knowledge, you need to contact an experienced specialist.
You can also install a special mobile app that detects so-called Wi-Fi thieves. These applications determine the number of devices connected to the network, their IP address on the local network, sometimes even the model, brand, or operating system.
Last year, experts talked about the dangers of using Wi-Fi in hotels. This allows you to significantly reduce costs, but experts believe it is not safe. They noted that a VPN can help protect your data. By using it, the data is encrypted, so "you can access the network without risk of falling victim to scammers."
