The announcements came amid a drop in sales of Tesla electric vehicles, which, in turn, led to a decline in profits. According to Reuters, which even cites three anonymous sources, in search of new profitable solutions the company planned to abandon economic developments.

Elon Musk not only categorically denied such versions, but also announced the presentation of the robotaxis, indicating a specific date.

For many years, news about two developments appeared in parallel: an inexpensive electric car with familiar controls and a robotic car without a steering wheel and pedals: for this reason, many experts believed that the company was choosing one of the options.

In particular, it was said that Musk himself, who has been promoting the idea of a robotaxi for many years, intends to relegate the production of an inexpensive electric car to the background. But behind the last mountain were the company’s top engineers, chief designer Franz von Holzhausen and vice president of engineering Lars Moravi.

The advanced self-driving feature is expected to be a new, more advanced version of the FSD (full self-driving system). Visually, the new development will resemble the design of the Cybertruck.

TechCrunch also recalls that Musk’s statement agrees with the information in his biography written by Walter Isaacson. In the book, the billionaire hinted at a next-generation Tesla with a possible launch in 2024. The bio even included “initial design drawings” of Robotaxi.
