Kirsten Jackson, consultant nutritionist-gastroenterologist and founder of The Food Treat Clinic, explains that soon after waking up in the morning, a person receives a dose of cortisol, the stress hormone. It helps you get out of bed and go to work. Cortisol levels are generally highest between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., depending on a person’s sleep cycle.

But like cortisol, caffeine helps increase energy levels. It is best to drink your first coffee before 10-11 am.

It is also important to consider its half-life when drinking coffee. It will take approximately ten hours for caffeine to be completely eliminated from the body. It is best not to drink coffee in the afternoon to avoid disrupting your sleep and ability to fall asleep. In general, caffeine can accumulate in the body and leave long-lasting effects on the person throughout the day.
