Google has updated the Find My Device application to find lost Android smartphones.
The change is that the main thing now is that the lost device does not have to be connected to the Internet. The signal with its location will be transmitted via Bluetooth to popular Android smartphones. Latitude works in a similar way on iOS.
Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are capable of transmitting coordinates even when turned off. This is a feature exclusive to them for now, but Google is collaborating with other manufacturers to integrate the feature into other future flagships.
Find My Device requires at least Android 9 to work. This is good because even older smartphones are getting the update. In total, the Find My Device network covers more than billions of Android smartphones.
The updated Find My Device app is now available in the US and online. It will soon be released to the rest of the world. [The Verge]
