During the first quarter of 2024, 121 million phone numbers and 38 million email addresses were leaked online. In total, this is five times more than in the same period last year. This year, financial organizations were among the leaders in breach volume. They accounted for more than 70% of the leaked data: 96 million unique phone numbers and 20 million email clients.
Attackers can use the information obtained both for advertising and spam and to try to steal money, the experts explained.
Roskomnadzor said that companies working with personal data should minimize the information collected for security reasons, delete it after achieving the purpose of processing, and periodically monitor the security of information. The service supports greater accountability for personal data breaches.
