He founded the company Starfish, which develops brain implants positioned as “games”.
Little is known about the Starfish project. The company’s website says it is developing “next-generation neural interfaces” that can “regulate emotions” and empower people, especially in virtual reality.
The first tests of implants have already been carried out on disabled people. Now Starfish is working to protect devices from hacking because they can become a tasty morsel for attackers.
Gabe Newell isn’t the first person interested in brain implants. Elon Musk has been working on the Neuralink project for several years, which also aims to create neural interfaces for humans.
It’s still unclear exactly how Starfish implants will differ from Neuralink. But Gabe Newell’s ambitions are no less ambitious than those of the SpaceX founder.
