The startup Synchron announced the start of recruiting patients for clinical trials of its neuroimplant. The list to test the chip will include several dozen people, said Synchron CEO Thomas Oxley.

Synchron received permission to research its chips in July 2021. The devices were implanted in several patients and no serious side effects were found from their implementation, the company said.

Synchron is a direct competitor to Elon Musk’s Neuralink. In March, the company showed the first results of a chip implanted in the human brain.
