The Angara launch vehicle launched a prototype advertising satellite from Avant Space into space. This was reported in the company’s press service, as well as in Skolkovo, where Avant Space resides.
A group of these satellites moves in orbit at an altitude of 500 to 600 km and forms logos and texts similar to a constellation in the sky. They will work on the principle of a QR code, which can be considered a smartphone camera.
The advertising projection will be turned on during the satellites’ passage over the cities for 3 to 5 minutes. Residents of 18 of the world’s largest cities, with a total population of more than 355 million people, will be able to view advertising from such satellites, Skolkovo said. Satellite lasers are safe for aviation and do not interfere with astronomical observations.
Placing the logo on the satellite will cost the brand $1 million if the contract is signed until the end of 2024. Avant Space estimates that the space advertising market will reach $1 trillion by 2027.
In August 2021, Avant Space patented a technology to display advertising from space. The company tested the satellite laser system in 2020.
