In a recent interview, Mac marketing chief Evan Buys claims 8GB is enough for “most users” and their daily tasks, including web browsing, media consumption, light photo editing, and casual gaming. Apple is highlighting the unified memory architecture of its M series chips, which it says optimizes RAM usage compared to traditional PCs.
Although 8GB can handle basic tasks with ease, some users are skeptical. Video editing, programming, and running multiple demanding applications can reveal limitations. This argument is especially true for the MacBook Pro, which has traditionally been aimed at professional users. Upgrading RAM from 8GB to 16GB costs an additional $200.
