This decision stems from Bluesky’s recent efforts to improve the platform. The campaigns launched by invitation only in February 2023 and opened to the public in February 2024. They also introduced new moderation tools to deal with the challenges of the growing social network.

Bluesky’s initial hesitation stemmed from concerns about managing the “unique needs” of high-profile individuals. Last May, users were advised to notify customer support before inviting “important contacts.” However, with more than 5 million users, including 1 million after removing invite codes, Bluesky seems confident that it can “manage the complexity of getting world leaders to join the platform.”
