One of the main features that Threads users miss is the ability to exchange private messages. Meta* plans to address this issue in the future and is already testing this feature.

Threads is testing a private messaging feature

As Engadget reports, some users of the service noticed the appearance of a “Messages” button above other users’ profiles in the place where the “Mentions” button was previously located.

A Meta spokesperson confirmed that the developers are “testing the ability to send messages from Threads to Instagram*.” At the moment, the company has no plans to create a separate mailbox for Threads. Instead, you want to “make Instagram inbox” work in the app.

Thus, users will be able to send a message directly from Threads, but to check their inbox or respond to a message they will have to go to the “neighboring” social network.

*Instagram belongs to MetaPlataformas, whose activities are recognized as extremist and prohibited in the Russian Federation.
