Samsung has risen to first place in global smartphone sales. The South Korean company deprived the American Apple of its market leader status, writes Reuters citing analytical data from IDC.

In the first quarter of 2024, Samsung’s share of global smartphone sales was 20.8%, while Apple’s share fell to 17.3%. In total, global device sales in the first three months of this year increased by 7.8% and amounted to 289.4 million units.

Apple’s smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2024 fell by 10%, the company managed to sell 50.1 million iPhones. Samsung, which launched the Galaxy S24 smartphone this year, sold more than 60 million devices during the same period.

iPhone sales are affected by Apple’s difficulties in the Chinese market. In China, some companies and authorities are imposing restrictions on employee use of Apple devices in response to restrictions imposed by the United States on Chinese apps.
