Finally, after repeated testing in beta, we finally have one of the most awaited features of WhatsApp: chat filtering. This is very simple functionality but especially useful for filtering out noise in inboxes messaging apps.

WhatsApp’s new chat filters are now officially available to everyone, although they will gradually roll out to every user, as is usually the case when new WhatsApp features are launched. If you’re lucky, the new filtering system will appear after updating to the latest feature. Otherwise, it will definitely appear in the coming days.

And what’s so special about this feature? Easy, clear out your chat inbox a little more, especially if we have a lot of groups that mix with personal chats. Similar to the current Unread feature, WhatsApp filters They allow you to choose between three shortcuts that will appear at the top of the chat list.

WhatsApp filters are not folders

The app lets you choose between “All,” “Unread,” and “Groups,” labels that you can select with a single tap. not being able to create personalized ones at the moment. Selecting this label will only display chats that match it:

  • All– A default view of all your messages, which leaves your inbox the same as it was before, without changes.
  • Do not read– Shows only those chat messages that you have marked as unread or that you have not yet opened.
  • Groups– All your group chats will be organized in one place. Subgroups of communities will also be included.

No more no less. The app doesn’t change its behavior or affect archived chats, it’s just a new option that allows you to separate different chat states. Perhaps the most useful (and most in demand) is the ability have group chats separate from the general list, especially to make it easier to read what we have.

Also keep in mind that these are not folders, just filters, so it’s essentially a shortcut to different types of chats. without the ability to permanently store different shortcuts in separate foldersa feature that Telegram has and that would be more than welcome on WhatsApp.

As we said, this feature has officially launched for all users, but depending on your operating system and even your WhatsApp account, it may take a few days for it to arrive.
