The timing and trajectory of the debris suggest a connection to the ISS. U.S. Space Command reported that a cargo pallet containing decommissioned batteries re-entered the atmosphere shortly before the impact. The object itself, a metal alloy rack, matched the description of the battery bays used in the cargo pallet.

Fortunately, Otero’s 19-year-old son, who was home at the time, escaped injury. The object hit the roof and flew two stories before falling. Luckily, it did not hit any major structural elements of the house.
