The European Parliament has adopted the Right to Repair Act. According to the document, after any repair the warranty period is automatically extended by one year. After warranties expire, the company will “continue to repair household products,” including smartphones, TVs, washing machines and vacuum cleaners.
If the product breaks during the warranty period, the user can choose to have it replaced or repaired.
Companies are prohibited from interfering with repairs in any way. They must also offer services at a “reasonable” price and not have the right to repair if the device has been to an unauthorized service center.
Within two years, EU countries will have to integrate this document into their legislation.
