American scientists discovered how adults’ perception of time changes when they look at different images. Even in this case, it turned out that the time of looking at the picture was different for them. The research results were published in the journal Nature Human Behavior.
Experts conducted various experiments involving 170 people. People had to look at images with different characteristics for different periods of time.
More catchy and large-scale plots “stretched” time for people. That is, it appeared to the subjects that they were looking at the pictures for longer than they actually were. And images with a lot of clutter made participants feel like they were spending less time on them than they actually did.
In general, the memorability of the visuals and the sense of time influenced each other. People were more accurate in reporting when they viewed a picture when it was more memorable. Stories that slowed down time for participants were better remembered.
