In its written statement, Google stated that it cooperated fully with the commission’s investigation and emphasized that there was no direct violation of antitrust laws. It promised to follow the commission’s instructions and deliver “valuable” search features for Japanese users and advertisers.
Yahoo, which collaborates with Japanese social platform Line, declined to comment.
The commission said Google’s alleged questionable practices began about a decade ago and continued for more than seven years.
The commission underlined that Google will be monitored over the next three years to ensure it makes the necessary changes. Google has not yet faced any immediate fines or other penalties.
