According to Yuri Shabalin, CEO of Stingray Technologies, the number of fake banking applications increased by 25% in 2023 compared to 2022. First of all, this applies to iOS versions, despite the vaunted protection in the App Store.
Shabalin also stated that the problem was caused by sanctions, as official Russian products were blocked and developers were forced to “hack” different versions of applications under different names that scammers took advantage of.
This is dangerous because it takes some time for malware to occur and spread from the moment it is detected and blocked, putting thousands of users at risk. Therefore, caution is required.
You can find such an application on both Google Play and App Store. RuStore Information Security Director Dmitry Morev commented on this situation. He noted that the service has three-stage application verification; If there is malicious code in the product, Kaspersky Lab solutions detect it immediately and the application is blocked.
