A recent study by video conferencing service provider Kontur.Talk showed that the transition to domestic software is gaining momentum in Russia. The research found that 57 percent of companies have replaced at least one foreign service with a Russian alternative in the last few years, and 61 percent of companies still use Windows and Office.

The most frequently changed services are foreign email services (27%), corporate instant messengers (19%), cloud storage (12%) and video conferencing services (10%). Interestingly, employees perceived the transition largely positively; Half of the participants reported that their employees adapted well to the new software. Only 10% of respondents initially expressed concerns but were later satisfied with domestic products.

However, the transition is not smooth. Businesses are struggling to find suitable alternatives to operating systems (21%), remote access services (8%) and database management systems (6%). This is especially true for Microsoft: 61% of companies still use Microsoft services, including Windows (45%), Microsoft 365 (14%), OneDrive (8%) and Microsoft SQL Server (8%).

Despite their continued dependence on Microsoft, more than half of those surveyed are concerned about possible disruptions in access to these products. As a result, many are actively seeking domestic alternatives.

More than 1,200 companies nationwide participated in the research.
