In general, MacBook Air is suitable for undemanding users or those who care about the size and weight of the laptop. But the paradox is that in most cases such a model will cost you the same or even more than the MacBook Pro in M Pro or M Max. At the same time, the Pro version will be better in all respects and will have the same memory as the MacBook Air.
If we talk about the price and quality ratio, we get the following. With its minimal configuration, the MacBook Air in M1 is ideal for people who want to do a lot of printing on it or do minimal work (light photo processing, simple editing even at 4K). You can also open a reasonable number of tabs on it.
If you have more money, you can choose between the MacBook Air on M2, which is not in the minimum configuration or has more combined memory or disks, and the MacBook Pro on M1 Pro and M2 Pro. Here you should think about what is more important to you: weight and size (Air) or performance and other characteristics (Pro). The 14-inch MacBook Pro version is ideal for travel and day trips, while the 16-inch version is ideal for stationary work.
To work directly with video, get a MacBook Pro in M1 Max or M2 Max. For working with graphics you should consider Mac Studio, but if portability is important, MacBook Air on M2 is suitable, but not in the minimum configuration (at least 16/512 GB). The 15-inch MacBook Air model is suitable for working or traveling in one place, while the 13-inch model is suitable for maximum portability.
The main thing is not to buy Pro versions on regular M1, M2 or M3 processors. The exception is perhaps the MacBook Pro on M1. Also, never buy MacBooks with Intel processors.
As for RAM, 8 GB will be enough for you in M1 or M3, but in M2 you should in no case take the basic configuration. And even if you’re just going to type text, get a model with at least 512 GB of permanent memory.
