Developer Thomas Valadez created just such a project on Raspberry Pi. Storybook creates image-based stories right on your device using a pair of open-source AI tools.
Once created, all data is formatted for a small color E-Ink display. This screen consumes minimal energy and the image remains on the screen even if the power is cut off.
Creating a new story and image takes about five minutes. It will also take some time for the E-Ink screen to update, but this will not be a problem if the device is not used very often. The unique result is worth the wait.
The project is based on the Raspberry Pi 5, but older models can also be used but with lower performance.
The screen is a 5.7-inch Inky Impression, but again, you can use another screen. Since artificial intelligence models take up a lot of space, you will need at least a 32 GB memory card.
