Previous research has shown that eating sweets can be harmful to human health. Experts from Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Henan University of Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Sao Paulo and Guangzhou Southern Medical University learned how the brains of laboratory mice responded to different sugar substitutes. It turns out that the sweetener stevia is more compatible with the brain. This substance is obtained from a plant of the same name. A scientific article about this study was published by the journal Neuroscience Research.

The scientists’ experiment involved 150 8-week-old mice. They were divided into six groups.

The activity recorded in response to stevia was similar to the brain’s response to sugar. This means that this component is most compatible with the brain and best reflects the taste of sugar. So theoretically, stevia may be the most beneficial sweetener for the brain.
