VK, Sber and Yandex abandoned the idea of creating a joint mobile operating system based on the open source code of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and focused on developing separate versions, Kommersant reports, citing sources.

One of the reasons for abandoning the joint project is that the company’s Android-based mobile operating systems Kernel (Kvadra OS) and Red Soft (Red OS) were added to the national software registry of the Ministry of Digital Development in 2023.
Yandex, Sber and VK intend to include their operating systems in the registry of the Ministry of Digital Development, notes the interlocutor of the publication. According to him, they are developing systems for both the consumer and government segments. This information was confirmed to the publication by three sources: two among software developers and one close to the government.
Yandex said the company is focusing on developing YaOS based on the open source AOSP for smart TVs, while VK said it is not developing an operating system. Sberbank and the Ministry of Digital Development did not respond to the newspaper’s request.
