Recently, I have often been asked what iPhone with what amount of memory is best for a person who decides to use an Apple smartphone with Android.
When I answered that it is best to take a model with 256 GB on board and higher, the second question follows: “but I don’t want a proshka, I want a regular fifteenth. I found a normal option, it has 128 GB. What is this not enough?»
This is actually a very interesting question in 2024. Photos take up more and more space, the games begin heavierMusic and other data can fill up your device’s memory very quickly.
As the owner of an iPhone 15 Pro with 256 GB, I have absolutely no problems with a lack of memory, although I constantly take photos, shoot videos, install applications and even download music to listen to offline. But if I had half as many gigabytes, I still wouldn’t need it.
So is it possible to survive with a measly 128 GB of memory on an iPhone in the modern world? Now tell me, and you will be surprised.
Where to remove memory
My media library takes up 77 GB. It’s good that it’s in the cloud.
The main eaters of free space on an iPhone are photos, videos and applications. I would like to mention Telegram as a separate item, which can fill all the free memory of a smartphone.
Photos of my iPhone 15 Pro were taken in jpeg format. One photo thus “weighs” on average 3-5 MB.
My photo and video settings.
Considering that I currently have more than 5,000 photos in my library, it turns out that all of them, together with the videos, take up 77 GB. For family people and people with children, the number of photographs can be safely multiplied by two, because such people have much more photographs of their loved ones.
Don’t forget to use a set of applications that are in demand in everyday life:
Telegram – 168.2 MB
YouTube – 323.1 MB
Whatsapp – 115.5 MB
In contact with – 408.7 MB
Yandex Go – 358.9 MB
Maps – 514.5 MB
Banking applications – 500 MB (only Tinkoff)
this set is worth it 2.4 GB In such complexity, and this is just the minimum that almost every iPhone user has.
Do you think so? we already took 80 GB of memory out of 128. add here 7 GBwhich is occupied by the iOS operating system itself, plus it is advisable to keep free about 12 GB for easy updating if a new version of this same iOS is released.
As a result, about 25 GB remains free from 128 GB. Surprisingly, even this is enough if you don’t plan to store apps or take photos of every moment of your day.
But what if you love taking pictures and playing mobile games? Then you can’t do without optimization, which we’ll talk about next.
How to make 128 GB of memory enough for everything
On my iPhone, only 65 of 256 GB are occupied. Acceptable.
Yes, that’s possible. Look at the screenshot from my iPhone – only 65 GB are occupied. The secret is in Telegram and in subscribing to iCloud.
Now more details.
The biggest ambush with the Telegram application, which took up more than 30 GB of memory. This happens because all the videos and pictures you watch in this messenger are cached on your device so that you don’t have to wait for them to download again in case you want to watch them again.
This can be fixed as follows: you need to go to Telegram, go to settings and select “Data and disk”. Next, go to “Memory Usage” and set the slider to a minimum mode of 5 GB. And then click the “Clear cache” button in the same settings section.

From now on, the “cart” will not occupy more than 5 gigs on your smartphone. This is a really serious space saver.
As for other applications, I recommend enabling the function of unloading unused programs from memory along the way. Settings – iPhone Storage. The system itself will monitor which applications you have not launched for a long time and automatically remove them, leaving the icons on the desktop. Visually you will not notice any changes, but the amount of free memory will increase.
Now about the media library: I recommend not to spare 149 rubles per month for the opportunity to have 200 GB in the “cloud”. It’s mere pennies, so you’ll never have to worry about memory issues because all your photos and videos will be stored in this storage.
For example, although my entire media library takes up 77 GB, the iPhone actually stores only about 2 GB. The originals of all photos and videos remained quietly on Apple servers. I don’t limit myself in any way when it comes to photos, and I’ve never cleared the Photos app of duplicates.
128 GB is enough for everything if you use it wisely
Deleting the Telegram cache was the same.
As a result, you can see for yourself that with an active iCloud plan of 200 GB and some components, you can completely comfortably use an iPhone with a significant amount of memory of 128 GB, and even store “heavy” games.
Apple’s iPhone 15 ad advertises 128GB crystal storage with “large storage capacity.” And if anyone is skeptical about this statement, I hope that I have proven that this is indeed enough to use all the functions and capabilities of a smartphone without restrictions.
So, the next time you are asked whether it is possible to take a 128 GB iPhone, just point to this article and say that, in principle, it is possible.
