Samsung has announced its first mobile chipset that includes a CPU and a GPU, built on an advanced 3nm Gate-All-Around (GAA) processor. At the same time, the chip was designed entirely by artificial intelligence without the help of engineers.

As Techspot reports, the design and optimization of the electronic circuit was carried out using artificial intelligence tools from American software developer Synopsys.

The Synopsys.ai program includes three main automated tools:

  • DSO.ai for chip design;

  • VSO.ai for functional verification;

  • TSO.ai for semiconductor testing.

By using large amounts of data with deep learning models, AI engines automate and accelerate chip development steps that typically require a lot of time and resources.

Thanks to optimized AI techniques such as layout partitioning, multi-clock synchronization and interconnect reflection, Samsung’s 3nm system-on-chip (SoC) achieved a 300 MHz increase in the clock speed of the CPU with 10% dynamic power savings compared to original parameters.

As Techspot notes, this is Samsung’s first comprehensive development based on the latest GAAFET processor, despite the announcement made by the company almost two years ago. However, until now it has only been used to produce relatively simple chips for cryptocurrency mining.

The introduction of AI design technologies is expected to allow the South Korean company to increase production of GAAFET chips for future flagship smartphones, tablets and laptops in the Galaxy line.
