Apple TV+ has previously tried to select outstanding series that can be compared to HBO. This strategy was widely appreciated and Apple even won an Oscar for the movie CODA.
However, Christoffel argues that the recent shift towards quantity over quality has damaged the platform’s reputation. The year 2022 begins as a golden age, with series such as Severance, Pachinko and Slow Horses receiving high scores on Metacritic. While Apple continues to produce successful products, failures seem to occur more frequently, often despite significant marketing efforts.
Looking at 2024 releases like Palm Royale and Franklin, Christoffel points out a stark contrast. Heavily promoted by Apple, these big-budget, star-studded shows have received less than positive reviews from critics.
