FACCT cybersecurity experts have uncovered a scam using fake photography studio websites. The company described in a press release the principle of operation of the attackers.
Attackers find a victim among models who want to do a photo shoot according to the TFP principle, that is, paying only for the services of a photo studio. The scammers send the victim a link to a fake photo studio website where they pay for their services. After this, the attackers gain access to the victim’s banking details.
The plan dates back to 2024, but began to gain momentum in the first quarter of 2024, according to FACCT. To date, 26 fraudulent resources have been identified.
“The detected phishing resources were sent by the CERT-FACCT team for blocking, the fraudulent photo studio sites were also sent to NCCCI for blocking and are currently no longer operating in the Russian Federation,” said Evgeniy Egorov, lead analyst at the Digital Risk Protection department. from FACCT.
According to the study, two-thirds of Russians have experienced attempts by scammers to steal their online accounts. Most attacks occur on social networks, personal email, and banking applications.
