Seat heating, driver assistance software and other minor features will be available by subscription.

BMW tests the system for certain functions in its vehicles for a monthly subscription fee.

According to The Drive, South Korea is being used as a testing ground to see if new car owners are willing to pay a subscription to unlock certain options on their car. For example, heated seats require a subscription of $18 per month. However, you can save some money by paying $176 for one year or $283 for three years. Permanently unlocking the ability to heat car seats costs $406.

Similar subscription options are offered for BMW Driving Assistance Plus software (starting at $1/month), High Beam Assist (starting at $8/month), heated steering wheel and artificial noise generator for select EV models. Unlocking them simply requires a subscription via smartphone or PC

I find it hard to believe that consumers will accept features that are available in the car they bought but are locked out without a paid subscription. What possible reason could BMW give for needing a regular payment for heated seats other than profit?
