Google once again tested the new Maps interface, which was shown to some users in February but not published. The new design of the app at the time valued viewing the map in the background; pages were replaced by scrolling screens of slightly reduced size.
This time, the new Google Maps interface tries to offer even more practicality. Floating screens have more rounded corners and a button so the user can turn them off more easily. There is also a share button further down in the same window.
Another change compared to the previously tested interface is the display of floating panels. They looked like they were piled on top of each other before. Check it out in the picture below.
All information now needs to be accessed from a single-layer dashboard. This seems to make interacting with the app simpler and easier.
But the most noticeable change is the screen that appears when searching for a route. In the currently tested interface, there is only a floating panel at the top of the map with start and end points. Driving, public transportation, walking, carpooling, and cycling options have been moved to a panel at the bottom of the app interface.
The update is not final yet
Some of these Google Maps updates have been tested before and have not been released. This means Google must continue testing changes. It is worth noting that the application has not received a new version, which is about to be updated as an official update in the Play Store and is accessible to all users.
The new Google Maps interface was found in version 11.127.x of the Android app. In our testing, we confirmed that the app was still at version 11.126.0103 on a Samsung device with Android 13 and One UI 5.1.
