In the first quarter of 2024, Muscovites and residents of the Moscow region made 10 thousand complaints to the Central Bank, while complaints about cyber fraudsters increased by 48% compared to the previous year. These were mainly complaints about illegal collection of funds through fake Telegram accounts. These data were provided by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Central Federal District of the Bank of Russia.
Dmitry Ibragimov, Deputy Head of the Security Department of the Central Federal District of the Bank of Russia, noted that efforts are continuing to minimize fraud cases. Banks are updating recommendations to increase customer awareness and developing special methods to contact potential fraud victims. This includes training bank employees to recognize such customers.
In January-March 2024, Muscovites sent 7,636 letters to the Central Bank and 3,075 requests to residents of the Moscow region. In total, during this period, the Bank of Russia recorded 16 thousand complaints from residents of the Central Federal District; this is 17% less than in the same period the previous year.
