The organizers of the SoC Design Challenge are the Russian computer equipment manufacturer YADRO and the National Research University “Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology” (NIU MIET). This is an annual event aimed at engaging students in applied research and development in the field of electronics, as well as developing students’ design skills for modern complex functional blocks and systems on a chip.

Hackathon participants competed in solving practical design path problems in four areas:

  • “Functional verification”;

  • “System programming”;

  • “Topological design”;

  • “RTL Layout” and “RTL PRO Layout”.

“This year we received more than 450 applications from students from Russia and Belarus. As a result of the selection, 263 people participated in the event, which significantly exceeds the scale of previous events. More than 45 participants came to us from St. Petersburg, a large delegation represented Innopolis of Tatarstan, as well as Minsk. Within the framework of five engineering courses, student teams solved practical problems in the development of modern microprocessors, tested RTL development, systems programming, verification and topological design. Thanks to these events it can be clearly seen that young Russian engineers are ready to solve interesting and ambitious problems.””said Alexey Pereverzev, MIET Vice-Rector for Innovative Development.

The works were evaluated by expert developers from YADRO, staff, professors and graduate students from the National Research University MIET. The winners and finalists of the hackathon received valuable prizes (cash prizes in the “RTL-design PRO” modality), up to 100 points for individual achievements when entering the university’s master’s program, as well as the opportunity to be interviewed for an internship. YADRO Impulse summer program without selection based on resume.

It should be noted that this year the Mietians were among the winners and winners in the five tracks of the contest.
