This is the first such development since Microsoft invested more than $10 billion in OpenAI to use artificial intelligence models.
Development of MAI-1 is being led by Mustafa Suleiman, a former Google AI leader who was most recently CEO of startup Inflection, whose employees and intellectual property rights were acquired by Microsoft for $650 million in March.
The Redmond team’s new invention will reportedly be an entirely new large language model containing approximately 500 billion parameters, significantly exceeding the capabilities of Microsoft’s previous open models.
Rumor has it that Microsoft may introduce MAI-1 at the Build developer conference this month.
