Starting this Wednesday (8), the manufacturer Dell began warning consumers about a cybersecurity incident that occurred on one of the company’s servers. In all, Approximately 49 million people purchased products from the brand between 2017 and 2024 may have been affected by an intrusion involving unauthorized access to customer data.

According to the company, private information such as Name, address and purchase made through the Dell website may have been disclosed — includes details like product description, purchase date, and even warranty information.

The company guarantees that financial information, banking or access data has not been compromised.

“We are currently investigating an incident involving the Dell portal, which contains a database of limited consumer information related to purchases made at Dell. (…) We believe there is no significant risk to our customersconsidering the type of information involved,” states an official note posted by the company on its website BleepingComputer.

Data became available days ago

It is possible that access to Dell customer data occurred last month. This is because the website Daily DarkWeb announced at the end of April A database stolen from the company was put up for sale on forums specializing in cybercrime. If the post is deleted days later, it usually indicates that the list may have been taken over by another contributor.

Dell also claims that because it is currently investigating the incident, it will not provide further details about the incident, such as what type of breach the attackers exploited. Still in a note the company says: “There is no indication that the incidents are related.”.

Even depending on the type of information obtained, criminals can use the data to impersonate fake customer support centers and use other social engineering attack methods such as phishing links.
