The New York Times reports that Apple is preparing for a major announcement at WWDC 2024.

As part of the presentation, the company is introducing a completely new Siri based on generative AI. This will allow it to better interpret requests and work with context, as well as more effectively interact with data from the network, like in ChatGPT.

The NY Times notes that Craig Federighi and John Giannandrea thoroughly tested ChatGPT and decided the company had to take action. Cupertino has decided to completely redesign how Siri works to compete with the chatbot.

The new Siri will also be able to communicate and understand all incoming text messages and notifications. Apple will benefit from the fact that its approach is more private than competing offerings, as it will process most requests entirely on the device rather than passing commands to the cloud.

The publication’s report also states that Apple is increasing the RAM in the iPhone 16 to better support Siri and related LLM features. [9to5]
