The US Department of Commerce has revoked Qualcomm’s license to supply Huawei and its subsidiaries with “4G chips and other integrated circuit products”, including “Wi-Fi products”, Gizmochina recalls.
The first similar ban in 2019 concerned only 5G chips, but now, in fact, Qualcomm has practically no products that the company can supply to the Chinese giant.
Intel is in a similar situation. The corporation is also prohibited from exporting Huawei chips. The ban applies only to consumer goods.
Intel can therefore expect to receive partial revenue from Huawei if it serves non-consumer applications, such as those used in data center servers.
Huawei has been on the US radar since 2019, when it was first added to the list of companies that are prohibited from trading with. This has prevented US companies from selling their technology, including 5G chips, to the Chinese tech giant.
Later in 2020, the United States required foreign companies that used American equipment to make chips to obtain a license before selling semiconductors to Huawei. Now these licenses have been revoked from Qualcomm and Intel.
