The new film “Planet of the Apes: A New Kingdom” has been released in Russia.
This is already the fourth part of the global relaunch of popular franchises. The director of the film about this time is Wes Ball, known for the “Maze Runner” trilogy. The films are controversial, but they managed to gather their fan base.
We have already watched the new product and will hasten to share our impressions. This movie stands out from the previous parts, although it is a little fresh.
Return to your favorite universe after 7 years
What is the movie about: Various phenomena after the reign of Caesar. The monkeys have a modern appearance, live in harmony, and humans remain in the shadows.
While a tyrannical new ape leader builds his empire, one young chimpanzee embarks on a journey that will force him to question everything he knew about the past and make choices that will shape the future of apes and humans alike.
As we can see from the synopsis, the action takes place hundreds of years after the events of the last part. Here the beginning of the second trilogy about the life of parts of people on the planet of the apes. People have greatly degraded in their development, society is ruled by the “heir” of Caesar – Proximus with the habits of a tyrant.
The kingdom of Proximus is very similar to the Roman Empire: just as powerful with its colonies and intentions to take over all ancient technologies. This is what will help them become stronger.
For a series with an unusual and silly backstory about what if talking apes would overthrow humanity, the Planet of the Apes universes are unusually thoughtful. It constantly rises complex topic, the world is created to incredible detail. Questions of religion and “correct” life are often raised here. The monkeys divided into tribes, and Caesar became not just a historical, but a mythical figure, who is still worshiped by many inhabitants of the planet.
The difference between the relaunched trilogy was the reversal of roles between humans and monkeys. For the latter, in particular, the seeing person – nonsense.
The new film is strikingly different from the previous three films in its narration and presentation. Here the life of monkey society is elevated to a complete absolute. The main character of the film, Noah, is not as multi-layered as Caesar. It is much more down to earth, but due to this it seems more modern to the viewer.
Screenwriter Josh Friedman managed to skillfully write the script, including some really interesting plot twists. Many of the characters created from his pen may not turn out to be what they were originally. And you really don’t expect it, the transformation happens gradually, revealing more and more shocking details to us. At the expense of people there is a chance to transform society as a whole.
Local history turned out to be multi-layered and complex. It grabs you from the first frame and doesn’t let go until the very end. Of course, there were some dips in the pace of the story, but they are so insignificant that you close your eyes. Much like in the original Star Wars trilogy – here many elements intersect with the space of the cinematic universe.
Gorgeous visuals included
One of the best parts of the film was the direction and overall visuals. The detail work here is kind of crazy.
Some landscapes captivate you immediately, the characters are drawn in such a way that you are amazed at the level of achievements of modern technology. Even the smallest changes in simulation to the naked eye are mesmerizing.
And against the backdrop of the fact that the mundane universe has become a kind of dystopia based on Bolla’s best motives, you readily believe in what is happening and ask the question “what if this were really so?” The main part of the narrative is built on the destroyed complexities of the scene, and you involuntarily recall the recent series “Fallout”, but only with a budget multiplied many times over.
The picture looks impressive and catchy. It is immediately clear that during its creation they did not skimp on the allocated funds.
This film explores and engages with other dystopias, but its classic setting also sets it against the backdrop of reality. It is this franchise that has been catchy since 1986.
And even though the new release doesn’t have much real action, it definitely speaks to the heart. At such moments, you especially admire the competent and well-executed work of the directors.
Good movie to watch
“Planet of the Apes: A New Kingdom” captures attention from the first minutes. This is a quality movie with excellent performances and a pleasant but banal side.
This is one of the best parts of the franchise and will appeal to all fans. This is the same confirmation and audience ratings. Thus, the film has a 7.3 on iMBD and 81% from critics / 79% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
Enjoy watching!
