It all started with a discussion on Hacker News when one of the users asked how Slack trains its artificial intelligence services. The post contained a link to the messenger’s privacy policy.

The document states that the company’s systems “analyze user messages and files to create AI and machine learning models.” Later, representatives of the courier confirmed this information. The data is actually used to improve some of the app’s AI tools, like emoji and search and channel recommendations.

Many were surprised that the company secretly received their correspondence and personal documents. Users believe Slack should have made this clear and given them the opportunity to opt out.

  • Slack began disconnecting clients in Russia in March 2022. Thus, the company sought to take into account both international sanctions and the policies of parent company Salesforce.
