Automatically adjusting screen brightness is a useful iPhone feature. Thanks to a special brightness sensor, the brightness increases outdoors, and decreases indoors, and when the device approaches the ear, it drops to zero. The option to reduce eye strain, saves battery power and makes using the gadget more comfortable.
For some iPhone owners, the screen goes dark without feeling guilty. This happens if there are fingerprints or dirt on the sensor. Then you need to thoroughly wipe the area near the speaker at the top of the screen. If the problem persists, the cause may be a setting, device overheating, or a system failure.
We have collected 10 current ways to solve the problem. You don’t need to do everything described below at once; check after each step to see if the problem has gone away and only then move on to the next one.
1. Let your iPhone cool down if it’s overheated
If the smartphone overheats in the sun, sits in the shower for a long time, or plays for a long time, the iPhone will slow down all processes to protect the internal components.
When heated, the screen dims. To return it to its original state, let the smartphone cool down. We have already written about what to do if your Apple device overheats in this article.
2. Turn off automatic brightness.
The automatic light feature allows your iPhone to independently adjust this setting: it turns on maximum in the sun and dims it indoors. The problem with falling growth may be a concern with this parameter. Here’s how to distinguish it:
► open Settings – Accessibility.
► Go to the section Display and text size.
► At the bottom of the list, turn off the toggle switch Auto brightness.
3. Turn on zoom on your iPhone.
Magnification causes an image to appear on the display when the switches are touched. Enlarging part of the screen may darken the rest of the screen. It is disabled as follows:
► open Settings – Accessibility.
► Select a section EVELIGEEE.
► Disable EVELIGEEEif it was previously enabled.
4. Increase iPhone auto-lock time.
By default, the Apple device locks after 30 seconds of inactivity, and dims a little earlier. If this time is not enough for you, you can extend it.
► open Settings – Screen and brightness.
► Go to the section Auto-lock – select a suitable time from the list. Click “Never” and your iPhone will only be locked manually.
5. Enable True Tone on iPhone.
Option True Tone similar to Auto brightness, it adapts rotating lamps to special conditions. This makes the screen appear dim.
► open Settings – Screen and brightness.
► Disable button True Tone.
6. Turn on Night Shift on iPhone.
Option Night shift Automatically switches the indicator colors to the warm spectrum from dusk to dawn. If the settings are set close to maximum at night, the screen will appear dim.
► open Settings – Screen and brightness – Night shift.
► Move the slider Temperature color to a comfortable value.
Or disable the option altogether.
7. Disable the Attention recognition option.
Attention Detection detects when you are on the screen using the Face ID sensor and keeps the backlight running longer. The option may not work correctly.
► open Settings – Face ID & Passcode.
► Enter the unlock password.
► Turn off the switch Attention recognition.
8. Turn off power saving mode.
Power saving mode reduces background activity on your smartphone while it is not charging. iPhone collects some visual effects, auto-lock time automatically resets to 30 seconds. The mode is activated like this:
► open Settings – Battery.
► Turn off the toggle switch Energy saving.
Or Command centre and disable the power saving button there.
9. Turn off the White Point Lowering option.
Function White point reduction increase the brightness of colors on the screen. It reduces eye strain for those who like to read and watch videos in the dark. This can also happen the next time you turn on the display. The feature is disabled as follows:
► open Settings – Accessibility – Display and text size.
► At the bottom of the list, turn off the toggle switch White point reduction.
10. Reset your iPhone
If revealing the information doesn’t help, restart your iPhone. If the screen is still acting strange, you need to reset your iPhone.
► open Settings – General – Transfer or reset iPhone.
► Select Reset – Reset all settings and enter your password to confirm the action.
Now you know all the ways to fix your iPhone screen randomly dimming.
