2. Ratchet and Clank: Rift (2021)

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is easily one of the most vibrant and exciting games in the PS5 library. If you liked the style and gameplay of Astro’s Playroom, but there weren’t enough of them, then Ratchet’s adventures will make any choice.

The game skillfully combines a third-person shooter, a simple slasher and a platformer with an interesting plot.

I won’t go into the details of the story; the game skillfully draws in the plot on its own, without requiring knowledge of subsequent parts of the plot, by the way. In terms of gameplay, everything is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. A wide arsenal of weapons will be revealed to the previous player. All 20 guns differ in their style of use and even act differently in the gamepad’s adaptive trigger system.

And, of course, it was incredibly pleasant to visualize, along with the feature of instant movement between drawn locations. The wow effect does not fade even after a long time. It’s definitely worth a try.

3. Final Fantasy XVI (2023)

If you don’t like the flashy graphics of Pixar’s 3D cartoons, then I suggest you check out the darkest and most mature entry in the Final Fantasy franchise. You don’t need to know the plot of the previous 15 games to do this.

From the first glance at the plot of FF 16, it becomes clear what served as the source of inspiration for the creators. Yes, they were inspired by the series of novels “A Song of Ice and Fire,” but everything was done with a Japanese flavor. Thankfully, typical anime clichés have been avoided, although the story has everything from sudden violence and the deaths of main characters to mysterious universal evil and scenes set for people over 18 years of age.

But where the greatest madness comes in is in the combat system. Despite belonging to a series with traditional turn-based battles, in the 16th part the combat is more reminiscent of Devil May Cry with its spectacular combos and incredible dynamics. This is not surprising, since the director of the combat system was the man Ryota Suzuki, who programmed the battles in the last DMC.

Final Fantasy XVI is an epic, beautiful and very dark adventure for the previous few hours. If you want vigorous battles, a plot with unusual themes and a pinch of gray morality with long cutscenes, then it is impossible to launch the project.

4 Star Blade (2024)

And now we get to one of the most high-profile projects of this year. Stellar Blade finally hit the streets, received a standing ovation, and became one of the main reasons to buy a PS5 in 2024.

First of all, Stellar Blade is a dynamic and moderately complex third-person action game with an incredible level of animation and body physics. The local combat is a wild combination of Metal Gear Rising, Nier Automata and Sekiro. Fast, dynamic and challenging to learn, with the same entertainment and excitement as traditional games.

First and foremost, this is not just a game, it is its creator’s love letter to the aesthetics of motorsports, driving culture and cars in general.

All of them take place exclusively on real tracks in the real world of auto racing and are worked out to the smallest detail, from neurons to the consistency of asphalt (according to the father of the series, Kazunori Yamauchi). There is also a full-fledged automobile encyclopedia; after a series of races, you will definitely tell in detail about the discipline in which you rode and why this particular class of car was chosen for it.
