Anatoly Petrukovich, head of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, says that life is unlikely on the planet Gliese 12 b, newly discovered by scientists. According to him, the planet is in the Goldilocks zone, where suitable conditions for life can be found.

Although Gliese 12 b is similar in size to Earth and located 40 light-years away, scientists have doubts about its habitability. Petrukovich states that the radiation on the planet can be very strong due to its location close to the star.

Senior researcher Mikhail Nikitin added that although the planet receives about the same amount of heat as Earth, there is not yet enough data to conclude that life is possible. Observations made with powerful telescopes can help determine the composition of the atmosphere and possibly the presence of living organisms.
