Driverless cars could become commonplace on Russian roads within five years. This opinion was expressed by Maksut Shadayev, head of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation, at the international cybersecurity festival Positive Hack Days. He is confident that such vehicles will become a part of our daily lives in the near future.
Shadayev emphasized that he does not have a driver’s license and that he is looking forward to the emergence of driverless vehicles. He claims that he is not afraid of this idea, because he has traveled with driverless prototype cars several times before and is happy with the experience. The head of the Ministry of Digital Development pointed out that the introduction of unmanned vehicles in the city center, for example in Moscow, requires appropriate technology and security. He also emphasized the importance of public support for this idea to be socially accepted.
Shadayev cited the example of Yandex’s robot couriers as a successful example of the use of unmanned technologies.
