It is stated that Apple is not yet ready to offer users its own chatbot or other serious AI functions, so it is working with third-party companies to improve Siri and this functionality in general. One of Apple’s partners is OpenAI.

This suggests that Siri will perhaps be partially implemented with ChatGPT. However, simpler AI functions such as data summarization on the device will be developed directly by Apple.

This collaboration between Apple and OpenAI is not welcomed by Microsoft, insiders say, citing a recent report by The Information. Not only does Microsoft see increased competition from Apple in the deal, but it also fears its already overloaded servers will crash.

There are reportedly more than 2.2 billion active Apple devices worldwide. All of these devices may cause “extra” load on Microsoft servers when ChatGPT functions are running on these devices.
