A. Apple confirms it will provide updates for devices iPhone 15 for at least five years. That’s less than Samsung promised for the Galaxy S24 handsets, which will have seven years of Android and security updates.

Apple’s information is official data from a document in which the company complies with a new regulation that came into force in the UK last month.

Theoretically, the five-year minimum support period will cover major operating system updates as well as security updates. This means there’s no guarantee the iPhone 15 will be updated from 2029.

Of course, we are talking about “minimum support”. Apple may continue to update mobile phones after this time. For example, the iPhone 7 was released in 2016 and continues to receive security updates today.

Many iPhone users were even impressed by this extended support policy.

Warranty is always a guarantee

Although Apple continues to provide support for the iPhone 15 after five years, a minimum update time guarantee is always welcome. Most current mobile phones have hardware with sufficient performance to work well for several years.

Therefore, most customers do not want to see their devices become obsolete due to lack of software support. Not to mention that this also affects the resale price of the devices.

Another point is that minimum support time can be used to justify switching technologies. Most new chipsets these days bring an NPU to handle AI tasks natively.

It’s possible that five years from now a company may consider not updating a device that doesn’t have this capability.
