These changes are driven by the increasing availability of 3D printing to make homemade firearms. However, these bans only apply to real firearms and do not apply to video games, movies or other artistic content. Exceptions may include educational materials such as military training footage, news reports, or videos from a war zone.
The policy update comes after the Technical Transparency Project (TTP) raised concerns that YouTube’s algorithm was recommending gun violence content to minors, including gun modification tutorials.
