One of the new products of the WWDC 24 summer presentation was a new operating system for Mac – macOS 15 Sequoia.
We have already experienced working with the system for the first time, and now we have collected a selection of 25 new features.

I’ll say right away that we won’t teach about Apple Intelligence here. The set of options is not yet available in the first test version. When exactly Apple’s AI will be released and will be available to all users of the final version of the system is still unknown.

iMessage
1. New effects for messages. Added more animations for text, emoji and stickers.
2. More new. Any emoticon can be used as a response to a message from your interlocutor.
3. Delayed sending of iMessage. Messages can be left strictly at the specified time.

Notes
4. Built-in voice recorder. A voice recorder has appeared in the notes; the recording will be attached to the note. For English, text transcript is used.
5. Collapsible headers. In a large note, you can rotate all headings to save screen space.
6. Mathematical calculations. You can write problems and examples in notes; after the “=” sign, calculations will be automatically made. You can write a problem, allowing a variable name. Notes will also solve everything.
For example: apple=5, banana=7, apple+banana=. Encryption examples must be written in English only
7. New shaping styles. You can color the text in your notes or add a colored tag or marker.

Safari
8. Highlighting important data on the page. This is not a summary of the news that will be available after the launch of the AI. This feature displays one or two main options whose users most often open the page.
For example, the browser will show a location map or establishment contacts, a level button or a call button. We’ll see later on which sites and how exactly the feature will work. It is now known that the option only supports English.
9. Summary of the page in reading mode. This feature will show a brief outline of news or articles when switching to reading mode. It does not work in the first test version, only English is supported.
10. Automatic activation of the “Picture in Picture” mode. Option Allows you to unpin the video from the page when you scroll or overlap another tab. This feature has long been available in standard browsers, for example in Yandex Browser or Arc.

Video conferencing
11. Replacing the video conferencing light. Feature Allows you to cut out the background and replace it with a static or dynamic image for video conferences and calls.
12. Preview before screen sharing. A useful option would be to show the area of the screen or application window that other users see before turning on the desktop. While the feature works with SharePlay, it is unclear whether it will appear on the doorstep of conferencing and remote access applications.

Convenient window management
13. Arrangement of windows on a grid. One of the coolest things from the world Window, which has finally been added to macOS. When you move a window to the edge of the screen, you can choose where to limit it. After this application, a part of the desktop is selected. While the chip works crudely, other, older options take over the work.
There are not enough settings and the most important keys to compete even with the settings of solutions from developers.
14. Quickly organize applications. In order not to arrange the window yourself, you can use the quick arrangement option. To do this, you need to point at the green window rotation indicator and select the appropriate option.
Like the previous feature, this setting is missing. For example, if you select three windows, one of them is half the screen, and the other two are 25% each. You cannot select the main one or swap windows with one touch.

New opportunities
Option to work on Mac with T2 chips (2018 and newer), smartphone and computer must work using the same Apple ID and nearby location
15. Remotely control iPhone from Mac computer. An interesting feature, the Cupertino people, who took a peek at the ecosystems of other manufacturers. On a Mac, you can see any iPhone desktop, launch apps, and interact with them. The smartphone screen will be locked. The gadget can be left in your pocket or charged from an outlet.
In the first test versions of the system, the feature does not work. Requirements for operating options are still flexible and apply even to some Mac processors IntelThere are no requirements for iPhone other than installation iOS 18. But the situation may still change.
16. Receiving protocol from iPhone. Continuing the topic, developers are moving notifications from iPhone to Mac. It turns out that if you work on a computer, picking up an iPhone is not a sacrifice at all. All messages, calls and notifications from application components can be seen on the computer, and the previous feature can be used to respond to them.
Like remote control of the iPhone, notifications on the smartphone do not work in the first test versions of the OS.
Apple’s website states that file transfers will launch later this year. Most likely, the feature will not be included in the iOS 18 release and will be available, for example, when iOS 18.1/2 is released.
17. Transfer files to iPhone. To explain the structure of how the theme works with a smartphone, the developers added the ability to transfer files from macOS to iOS. It is not yet clear what this will look like in an example. Data may be saved in some applications Files or immediately get to the applications you need

Other changes
18. Updates in the Maps application. 63 national parks received updated trail maps from the United States.
19. Own and offline routes on maps. In the application Cards You can create your own walking routes and download route data for offline access.
20. New options in the Calculator. The calculation application has a built-in currency and currency converter, as well as several new tools in engineering mode.
21. Integration of Reminders and Calendars. You can create, view, and share app reviews right in Calendar.
22. Announcement of new games for Mac. Along with the new macOS Sequoia, they announced the adaptation of some games: Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Frostpunk 2, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and others. A full list of games coming to macOS in the near future is available here.
23. New features in the Freeform app. The project collaboration utility now has scenes and sections for organization boards, a new mode diagram, and auto-alignment.
24. New cross-platform Passwords application. A bunch of keys Select from system settings in a separate application – password manager. The utility looks the same on Mac, iPhone and iPad.
There is a filter to highlight Wi-Fi passwords or application login keys. Codes can be viewed, shared, enabled two-factor authentication, or go to the service website to change.
25. Collections in the Photos application. In the photo viewer, as in iOS, a collection has appeared – it automatically creates collages from photos and videos. Very similar to memories, only faster and with new effects.
