Apple didn’t show off CarPlay at the iOS 18 presentation, but it still got a few new features.
Almost all of them are available in the first beta version of iOS 18.
1. Photo contacts in Messages
Photos of contacts are now displayed next to names in Messages. They are also provided in notifications.
2. Setting the silent mode.
As part of CarPlay, you can now change the silent mode of your iPhone when connected to a car. For example, turn on or off silent mode or do not touch these parameters at all.
3. Color filters
This feature is intended for people with color blindness. It helps differentiate colors in the CarPlay interface using preset color filters.
4. Voice control
With this feature, you can completely control CarPlay using Siri voice commands.
5. Sound recognition
CarPlay can recognize car horns and sirens and then warn you about it on the screen. This feature may be especially useful for drivers and passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing.
It doesn’t work in the first beta version of iOS 18 yet.
The company is also preparing a completely updated CarPlay, which will be able to control the functions of the car. This is what Apple paid attention to during sessions with developers.
