Protecting your skin from UV rays is important not only in the summer months but all year round. This is because you may be exposed to these rays on cloudy or cool days.
Here are the steps you can take to protect your skin against the sun.
suntan cream. Use a broad-spectrum cream that filters two types of UV rays: UVA and UVB. Additionally, the sun protection factor (SPF) should be 15 or higher. Apply a thick layer to areas of the skin that will be exposed to sunlight at least 20 minutes before going outside. It is also important to reapply sunscreen if you are in the sun for more than two hours, swimming, sweating, or towel drying.
Sunglasses. They protect the eyes and the skin around them from the sun. Most sunglasses sold in the United States block UVA and UVB rays.
Hats and clothes. The best protection from the sun is provided by hats with a full brim that cover the face, ears and neck. Avoid straw hats as they let in too much sunlight. Protect your ears and the back of your neck with clothing, wear sunscreen, or stay in the shade when wearing a baseball cap.
Shadow. Even if you’re in the shade, you still need to use sunscreen or protective clothing. The risk of skin damage can be reduced by lying under an umbrella, tree or other shelter. Other ways to protect yourself from the sun include scheduling activities in the morning or afternoon.
sunburn. It usually occurs four hours after sun exposure. It disappears after 3-5 days.
Treatment. You can take an over-the-counter pain reliever to ease the pain of a sunburn. Applying a damp, cool cloth to the burn or applying aloe or moisturizer may also help. Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
